How to Get Started With Take-Everywhere Literacy Packs

1. Open Your Boxes of Decodable Books

Start by assigning each student a pack that matches their phonics needs. Science of Reading Take-Everywhere Literacy Packs™ come in three different skill levels, each targeting key phonics skills:

  • Beginning of the Year: CVC Review
  • Middle of the Year: Beginning & Ending Blends
  • End of the Year: Final E & R-Controlled Words

Use the extra labels provided to personalize each pack with students' names for easy distribution.

Send packs home with students so they can practice reading with their family members and caregivers.

Schools have the flexibility to send the packs individually or together, based on their preference.

Encourage families and caregivers to use the Learning Together Resources in our Family and Caregiver Hub to support their child's literacy growth!

Each Take-Everywhere Literacy Pack™ includes:

  • 2 Packs of 10 Science of Reading decodables personalized for each student so you can distribute to students whenever you choose!
  • A custom backpack so students can take their books everywhere.
  • Video lessons in multiple languages that reinforce phonics. Families and caregivers can scan the QR code on each decodable to watch a fun phonics video unique to every book!
  • Writing pages to strengthen the reading-writing connection.
  • Research-based activities that motivate students to keep reading.
  • Personalized letter from the Iowa Department of Education to build relationships with families and caregivers.
  • Family and caregiver letter to support reading at home.

You can distribute packs based on your students’ needs.

There are three categories of Take-Everywhere Literacy Packs™ focusing on different phonics skills for first-grade reading development. Each pack will be labeled with its target phonics skill listed below. 

NOTE: The packs’ labels do not include level descriptions—this information is just for administrators and teachers.
