In our ESSA Level II study, 71% of teachers used the ready-to-use lesson plans in small groups before books went home. For the greatest impact, we recommend teachers attend training and follow the same routine.
Share the research and encourage teachers to attend training to maximize impact. Invite families to read at home and join Family Literacy Workshops.

Keep staff and families informed each round about the recommended routine (small groups first, then books go home), upcoming dates, and what’s coming next.

Through its partnership with Just Right Reader, NMPED is providing four rounds of personalized Take-Everywhere Literacy Packs™ throughout the school year, beginning in November. Each pack includes decodable books matched to students’ phonics skills to support reading practice at school and at home.
Principals help ensure successful implementation by supporting Literacy Champions, encouraging professional development participation, and ensuring materials reach students and families.
Ensure a Literacy Champion is designated at your school and student data is uploaded on schedule. Encourage participation in training, and support timely distribution of materials to teachers and families. Refer to our NMPED Data Hub for more information about data uploads.
Just Right Reader uses student reading assessment data to match decodable books to the phonics skills each student is ready to practice, providing targeted support based on individual reading needs.
