Sara Rich is a former school principal with more than 20 years of experience as an educator and school leader who founded Just Right Reader in 2019 after one of her own children struggled to learn to read. That experience, combined with what she witnessed throughout her career, revealed a critical gap: literacy resources aligned with the Science of Reading that also made reading joyful and reflected students’ cultures and experiences were largely missing. She set out to change that.
After beginning her career in education, Sara earned an M.P.P. from the Harvard Kennedy School and went on to serve as a principal for more than a decade. She then launched Just Right Reader, a company dedicated to accelerating reading achievement through research-aligned, engaging literacy resources with integrated family engagement supports that extend learning beyond the classroom. Her approach is direct: anchor instruction in scientific inquiry and learning theory, then build the materials that make it actionable. Today, Just Right Reader’s materials are used by more than five million students in over 3,000 districts nationwide.
